Carbon Fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP fabric) systems are simply defined as high­strength and lightweight reinforcements created by combining carbon (CFRP fabric ) with a polymer material (epoxy resin). The performance characteristics of CFRP fabric strengthening system have become increasingly popular in construction and retrofit applications, specifically in aging, damaged, deteriorating or overloaded concrete structures.

 

Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers for Structural Strengthening. These fabrics are applied onto the surface of existing structural members in buildings, bridges and other structures. The result is an externally bonded CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) reinforcement system engineered to increase the structural performance

 

The most common CFRP fabric systems for concrete strengthening applications are carbon fiber based (CFRP fabric). Carbon has superior mechanical properties and higher tensile strength, stiffness, and durability compared with glass fiber based systems. The use of prefabricated CFRP bars and plates is typically limited to straight or slightly curved surfaces; for example, the top side or underside of slabs and beams. Prefabricated CFRP elements are typically stiff and cannot be bent on site to wrap around columns or beams.
